True glucose content of lumbar and ventricular cerebrospinal fluid.

چکیده
Glucose levels in 154 random specimens of lumbar cerebrospinal fluid, normal as regards cell and protein content, were estimated by the glucose-oxidase method and a mean value of 60.5 mg./100 ml. (S.D. 7.3) was obtained. In 33 fasting patients subject to air encephalography the mean cerebrospinal fluid (C.S.F.) glucose level was 56.5 mg., and mean blood glucose level 65.5 mg. with an average C.S.F. glucose: blood glucose ratio of 0.85.

Cerebrospinal Fluid Indices in Children with Febrile Convulsion
Background and Objective: Febrile convulsions (FC) are the most common seizure disorders in children. Lumbar puncture should be considered in any case with FC who is suspected to intracranial infections. This study determined white blood cell and polymorphonuclear cell counts, protein and glucose levels in cerebrospinal fluids (CFS) of children that were hospitalized with FC. Methods: In this ...
متن کاملInteractions between Flow Oscillations and Biochemical Parameters in the Cerebrospinal Fluid
The equilibrium between the ventricular and lumbar cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) compartments may be disturbed (in terms of flow and biochemistry) in patients with chronic hydrocephalus (CH). Using flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and CSF assays, we sought to determine whether changes in CSF were associated with biochemical alterations. Nine elderly patients with CH underwent phase-contrast MR...
متن کاملCerebrospinal Fluid Indices in Acute Drug Intoxication Do they Predict the Patients’ Outcome?
Introduction: In some intoxicated patients, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is examined due to the prolonged loss of consciousness, focal neurologic findings, and fever of unknown origin. We aimed to evaluate the probable relationship between the different toxicity causes and the CSF indices in poisoned patients and determine if they could predict the patients’ outcome. Methods: All patients who h...
متن کاملBacterial Infection in Infants and Children with Fever Selected for Lumbar Puncture
ABSTRACT Lumbar puncture (LP) is performed frequently in Pediatric departments to diagnose meningitis in infants and young children with fever. Children selected to have LP who do not have meningitis may, however, have other bacterial infections. During a 2-year desciptive study, we investigated lumbar punctures performed in pediatric departments of Bou-Ali, Emam-Hossein and Loghmane-Hakim ho...
متن کاملThe Value of the Examination of the Cerebrospinal Fluid in the Diagnosis of Intracranial Tumours.
Examination of the lumbar cerebrospinal fluid in the diagnosis of cerebral tumour is less often resorted to than formerly, partly because in some instances there may be a risk of coning after lumbar puncture, but more especially because arteriography and ventriculography are now more frequently used for locating the tumour and examination of the ventricular fluid is often found to be more conve...
